Supporting Metro Community Housing’s Women’s Safe-Housing Gardens
At the Arcare Family Foundation, we believe that lasting change begins with creating spaces where people can grow - together, with dignity, safety, and joy. It’s why we were pleased to support Metro Community Housing in their thoughtful initiative to establish two community garden sites for the women’s safe-housing estate.
A Garden That Grows More Than Plants
For residents of the women’s safe-housing estate, the garden isn’t just about green thumbs - it’s about reclaiming space, forging friendships, and nurturing wellbeing in a place that becomes a sanctuary. The intention behind the project was clear: to provide a gathering space where neighbours could meet, relax, and converse in an atmosphere of trust and care.
Why Gardens Matter
Research shows that time spent in green spaces brings real benefits - lower stress, elevated mood, and a gentle invitation to connect with both nature and others. For women who have experienced hardship or trauma, a garden can be more than calming - it can represent safety, agency, and renewal.
By supporting the creation of these gardens, the Arcare Family Foundation was doubling down on our belief that environments shaped with care can foster psychological, social, and emotional flourishing.
About the Partner Behind the Project
Metro Housing is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to delivering affordable, safe, and dignified housing solutions for people who need them most - including women at risk of violence or isolation. Their commitment to both support and empowerment aligns strongly with our own mission to help older Australians - and intersecting communities - to feel valued, supported, and thriving.
